Categories have never worked.   Life Style.  Celebrity.  Corporate.  Commercial.  Personal.

I have been struggling with this blog.   Feels really awkward talking about work.  Have not been posting enough pictures.  Not even sure anyone really reads it.   I thought of this blog as my “work” related blog and “Bigger Than Yesterday” as a  more personal blog where I could put some of the Jackson pictures.  On days that this one feels thin…I would reccomend checking out “Bigger Than Yesterday”.  I love what is going on over there.

It is all about rhythm.  I will get this one moving.  Just need to let go alittle more and think alittle less.

Is Clarence Thomas sleeping?

Watching the inauguration on TV was a really distorted experience.  Of course we were thrilled at what was going on.   I wish I could have really visualized the scope of the moment.  We saw everyone posing for the cameras, but didn’t get to see all the funny earmuffs and get a real sense of the seating chart behind and the masses in front.

This picture by David Bergman let’s you really get  a sense of the enormity.  You can zoom in really far.  I was pretty horified to see one of the Supreme Court justices seeming to snooze during Obama’s speech.  Maybe we are better off if Justice Thomas does does some of his snoozing ON the job.

Also…check out this link from the Boston Globe – love all of it:  http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/01/the_inauguration_of_president.html

A New Friend

Good morning George,

It was just great meeting you at PIM last night.  It was one of the least interesting meetings I’ve been to but meeting you guys saved it for me.

I’m going to Virginia for 10 days tomorrow, but the minute I get back, you’re on the list for Maplewood Dining Club.  I’m sure to bring back southern stuff to eat.  Last year, rose and stuffed the back of the car with ham, canned peaches, goo goo clusters, collards,  a carton of cigarettes for the dog sitter, chewing tobacco (well hell they were giving it away at the store where they sold the cigs), White Lily flour, and stone ground corn meal.  I mean some things you just can’t get up here.

so I’m sure we’ll have a Ham and biscuits dinner when we get back.

Can’t wait to see you guys again.

best

Linda

Linda,

I think we are in love with you!  I have never tried chewing tobacco…but if it adds to the dish, hardens the whipped whites, and it fun to spit on a steak while it is grilling, I am in.

PLEASE call when you get back.   We will watch Sherman’s March and get all the burners going.

In the meantime, we will grease the front door jam with lard …..

X

George

We Can and We Will

Watched the inauguration at the Arts Center in Newark – filled to the rafters and shaking like a good Sunday morning gospel service.  So much build up – felt like if our new President just stood there and looked out proudly we would have all understood the message and that would have been more than enough.

All that old political lumber stacked tightly on the stage behind him.  All watching the next wave take off and wondering if the ride was going forward with or without them.  We are going to reinvent this country and the way we think about things.   We have to and now we have the vision on top.  A common thread that honors all people.  A vision that respects the land.  An expectation that insists we all pitch in.

I listened this morning to the Harlem Boy’s Choir singing, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”  I listened to Paul Robeson singing, “Scandalize My Name.”  I listened to Woody Guthrie singing, “This Land Is Your Land.”  I listened to Nina Simone singing, “Feeling Good.”

Are we dreaming big?  Yes we are!

Lift Every Voice and Sing

What can I say about how incredible this day is for all of us?

We had not dreamt this big.

We had not dreamt this big.
