Inside

I sent out our new “Inside” flipbook to some friends last week – and the floodgates broke.

Floodgates of tears and joy:

From Susie, “i am crying…and I don’t often cry.thank you for sending it to me and making me smile/cry”

From Linda, “Honestly…have tears in my eyes as I write this…MAGICAL!!! “

From Liz, “I look ridiculous because I’m sitting at my desk crying and grinning ear to ear. This video is absolutely beautiful! I love everything about it – visuals, music everything. I love seeing you and your family so happy.”

From Rick, “…. and they asked, what is Love…. and they answered – look inside!”

“Inside” is our welcoming Asher into the world.  It taps into the sweet spot our family likes to live in and share.

Enjoy.   Here on our langestudio.com.

Back from Heaven – Baby For Sale

Here is the playlist at the studio this week.  Listening through MOG subscription service which I LOVE!   Streams or downloads to your iphone for $9 a month – and – as of today is part of the SONOS system.

The rapture folks finding themselves back on earth, now have to deal with the harsh reality of the NSA getting us all to sing“somebody watching me”, Chicago becoming the new Baton Rouge (I wonder how hot the real Baton Rouge will get?), and an arrogant Supreme Court. Meanwhile, my friend Robert has lost 17 punds on the archevore diet and looks great.

For Kay

This one is for my good friend Kay Unger, who became a grandmother TWICE in 4 days earlier this month.  This is a picture of Kay with Eleanor at her birthday last night on the magic pink ottoman in her bedroom in Soho.   Kay makes everything look easy, that is the trick of a real pro.   Dinner parties for 50 friends are always joined by couples she just met on the street.   She always claims there is no food around, and trust me, you have never eaten better – Thanksgiving, Break the Fast, and even her birthday party with take out from  Momofuko – two kinds of chicken – 5 sauces – and banana birthday cake with a crunch that left everyone swooning.

But it is Kay’s generosity and friendship and grace that we come to be a part of.  Her open door and unlocked heart that we love and care for.   Kay is the friend who makes you feels extra special and really cares when you need someone to care.  Kay wants to know everything about everything, and always wants to try anything new.

Jackson loves to visit Kay.  He runs circles round and round her loft.   “Look, I am running so fast”  ”Look I am racing so fast I can’t put on the brakes” and by the end of the night  ”Look I am running on fumes….”  Kay is clearing the way for every lap and cheering him on.

There is a very lucky boy named Arthur, and a very lucky girl named Eleanor – who are not going to believe what a great grandmother they have to play with.

Love you Kay!

Best Day Ever

Stephie did this watercolor last night as I was writing this post on the floor of her studio.

My family has always been predisposed to hyperbole.  It is the way we live our lives.   Best movie, best concert, best meal, best lovin’ EVER!

Yesterday I had to pick up a rental camera and lens for the weekend (my best cameras are getting a week at the Canon camera spa.)   I got the small case and took a taxi to Penn Station.  Grabbed a sandwich.  Then, “Oy Vey.  Holy Cow.  Oh my God!”   I left that camera bag in the taxi.  Did not get the receipt.  The train home was about to leave.   Have to pray to the camera gods for a moment between New York and Newark.

Flashback 4 years ago when we moved to Maplewood.   About a month after we bought the house, it was a glorious summer day, and I decided to come home on the train early in the afternoon.  The train was mostly empty.  I had decided to bring my whole camera case and put it on the rack above the seats.   The ride was really beautiful, dreamy.   When I got off in Maplewood, I was in the best mood.  Stephie who was 6 months pregnant with Jackson was picking me up.  As the train pulled away, I realized I had left the camera case on the train.   It had everything I owned – almost $75,000 worth of stuff.  I went to the car and told Stephie I needed to drop her off at home, that I had to drive to Dover (which was the end of the line).    I had never been to Dover, but I decided not to speed.  If I got a ticket I would totally lose it. After a half hour or so, I pulled into Dover and found the train station, which was closed.   No one was around.  Nothing.   I parked the car, walked up to the tracks just as a train was pulling in really slowly.   I peeked in, no one was on the train.  No passengers.  No conductors.  This could not have been my train.   I decided to check anyhow.  I had been in a car somewhere in the middle of the train, so I picked out a car about there to look into.

The train slowly halted and the doors opened.   I stepped into the random car I had chosen and there on the rack was my camera case. No one was around.   I left the train, the doors closed behind me, and the train pulled out of the station.

Last night the phone rang.   The taxi driver called from the Bronx  with the camera bag I had left in his taxi that afternoon.

Best Day. EVER!

Ok. Smile.

Really.  It is not so bad.   I  sat with the crayons at the Maplewood Diner for breakfast this morning.  Drawing a wave of emotions for Jackson, my 3 year old.  Mostly happy, then a dip for something sad, then back up to happy.  That is how it works.

David Mishler, who works with me, and has really stepped up into the batter’s box this week as the winds have shifted at the studio sent me this link after the weepy post on Monday: From Ted Talks – The Hidden Power of Smiling.

Got this shout out today.   Jerry and I are just beginning a great project together in Summit.  This Sunday we fired the gun to start the race:

THANK YOU again to Jerry Rotunno of .food in Summit for his AMAZING work in the Pink Honor Roll tent. He created a unique experience as a special thank you to our top participants. And, THANK YOU to George Lange who captured the experience with this fabulous photos! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

This song by Maria Alcina played on a David Byrne Brazil Mix I was listening to today on MOG – my new favorite music subscription service.  It sounded like the soundtrack for this post.
